What does it mean to be a member?
Members make a commitment to contribute to the work of the congregation and financially according to their means. No interested individual or household will be turned away for lack of funds.
Benefits of membership include: becoming a founding member of our community and supporting its growth; a vote at the annual members meeting and a voice in key decisions; access to Chesed committee support; pastoral and life cycle support for immediate family members from the Rabbi (weddings and b'nai mitzvah are not included in membership dues); access to Hinenu programming and resources at a free or reduced rate; and eligibility to hold office for the Hinenu Board and committees.
Who can be a member?
Membership is open to any individual who meets the following criteria:
• Is above the age of 12 (or post b’nei mitzvah)
• Children and youth of members are welcome to participate in any and all activities of the community. Youth members (aged between 12 and 18) are eligible for full membership including voice and a vote in decision-making. Youth member contributions are non-monetary and developed on a case by case basis.
• Contributes to the congregation through individual contributions and participation in the community (see additional materials for dues and contributions)
Community members who are also formal members of other synagogues or religious communities are welcome to join Hinenu. Prospective members joining the organization should have a clear understanding of expected contributions to the congregation
What is the cost of membership dues?
Hinenu's dues structure is based on a voluntary contribution. Hinenu members commit to contribute to the work of the congregation and financially according to their means. All are welcome to become members of Hinenu, regardless of financial position.
Membership dues structure is based on actual operating costs. Hinenu's July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019 total annual budget from membership is $32,400. On average, dues of $432 ($36/month) are needed from 80 members for Hinenu to operate in the coming year.
We know some members will not be able to afford this amount - and we do not believe in putting the onus on members to ask for dues relief. We will gladly accept whatever contribution members can make toward sustaining our congregation, with no questions asked. We also know that some of our members will be able to afford a larger figure; members who can contribute more are certainly encouraged to do so!
Hinenu also sets nominal fees to help offset the cost of large events, as well as for classes and other programs.
